28.11.17   FULL Planning Permission for Dunleary House granted by An Bord Pleanala, with no changes or restrictions. Residents are outraged and betrayed at the wholly inappropriate high density student development permitted in a mature and historic neighbourhood, which already suffers from the anti-social behaviour of drunken UCC students. Permission granted to Mideam Ltd, with registered directors Dennis O Brien and Shane Keogh.  This decision highlights the urgent need for Cork City Council to put in place a Policy on Student Accommodation. The need for student accommodation must not come at the expense of wiping out an existing established community. The alleged shortage of suitable family housing in Cork is a joke, given that this area is full of lovely houses, all being sacrificed for a transient student population, that does nothing for the sustainability of the community. The local schools do not have any children coming from this area as families have been forced out.
